About the instrument

SDI is built on Relationship Awareness Theory. Rather than describing personality traits, it looks at motive: what a person is trying to achieve through their behaviour. Crucially, it maps motives under two very different conditions, when things are going well and when a person is in conflict.

That second dimension is what sets it apart. Most people shift predictably through a sequence as conflict escalates, and seeing that sequence written down tends to defuse it. Teams stop reading each other's behaviour as character and start reading it as a response.
